Session Report
The Council of Representatives held, on 27/8/2026, its fourteenth session of the second legislative term of the first legislative year of the sixth electoral cycle, chaired by Mr. Haibat Al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Council. The session included:
- The Council recited Surat Al-Fatiha for the souls of the two martyrs, Brigadier Hisham Mohammed, Director of the Baghdad Municipality Police, and police member Khalid Lafta, following the treacherous attack they suffered in the Al-Dora district of Baghdad while performing their duty of removing encroachments.
- Voting on a parliamentary resolution recommending that the government form a supreme investigative committee to complete its work urgently and provide the Council of Representatives with the measures taken in this regard, and directing the parliamentary Security and Defense Committee to follow up the details of the incident and inform the Council of the investigation procedures in detail.
- The Speaker stressed that the perpetrators be brought before the judiciary as swiftly as possible, and called on the government to find a practical solution to informal settlements and encroachments.
- First reading of the draft Law Repealing the Law Ratifying the Economic Unity among the States of the Arab League No. (169) of 1963, submitted by the Foreign Relations Committee

- First reading of the draft Law on the Accession of the Republic of Iraq to the Convention Relating to International Exhibitions signed in Paris in 1928, as supplemented by the Protocols of 1948, 1966 and 1972 and amended in 1982 and 1988, submitted by the Foreign Relations Committee.
- The Council commenced the first reading of the draft Intellectual Property Law, submitted by the Legal Affairs Committee, the Higher Education Committee and the Social Affairs Committee.
