Session Report
The Council of Representatives held on (22/4/2026) its twentieth session of the first legislative term of the first legislative year of the sixth electoral cycle, chaired by Speaker Haibat Al-Halbousi. The session included:
_ Mr. Haibat Al-Halbousi, on behalf of the Council of Representatives, commemorated the anniversary of the martyrdom of Sayyid Mohammed Mohammed Sadiq Al-Sadr, offering his sincere condolences to Sayyid Muqtada Al-Sadr.
_ MP Burhan Al-Maamouri, in a statement he delivered, commemorated the martyrdom of Sayyid Mohammed Mohammed Sadiq Al-Sadr, praising his great role as a school of sacrifice, a symbol of reform, and a leader of a faith-based renaissance project that restored the nation's awareness and identity, noting his path that charted the way of dignity and honor and that he paid his life as a price for his principles, and renewing the pledge to continue his message and reform project.
_ First reading of the proposed Ministry of Communications Law, submitted by the Transport, Communications and Governance Committee.
_ The Speaker stressed the need for the concerned committee to study the proposed Ministry of Communications Law thoroughly and to hear opinions and proposals, in addition to seeking the assistance of experts and specialists to mature the law.
_ First reading of the proposed Municipal Solid Waste Management Law, submitted by the Agriculture, Water Resources, Marshlands and Environment Committee and the Services and Reconstruction Committee.
_ The Speaker expressed his complete rejection of the decision to cut the ration share of army and police personnel of all branches, directing the Security and Defense and the Economy, Industry and Trade committees to follow up on the matter and address the government to suspend or cancel this decision.
_ The Speaker directed the concerned committee and the competent authorities to follow up on the issue of water pollution in the Tigris and Diyala rivers.
