The session included a review of the achievements of the Council of Representatives and the achievements of a number of Parliamentary standing committees of the second parliamentary cycle (the Committees of Oil and Energy, Clans, Security and Defense, Economy and Investment, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Women, Family and Childhood and Labor and Social Affairs). The Session Minutes On September 28, 2013 the Council of Representatives held the 22nd session of the first legislative term of the fourth period chaired by H.E. Mr. Qusay al-Suhail, the Speaker’s First Deputy:

- The session was attended by 187 MPs

- The Council heard a detailed report on the recent security events presented by the chair of the parliamentary Security and Defense Committee MP Hasan al-Senaid. Al-Senaid said that the Committee hosted last Thursday the commander of Baghdad operations and the Joint Chiefs of Staff to discuss the security situation. During the session, it was emphasized that Iraq will never go back to the days of sectarian conflict. Mr. al-Senaid pointed out that the Commander of Baghdad Operations reviewed the general situation, especially the enemies’ activities, and talked about Operation Martyrs Vengeance (Thaar al-Shuhadaa) and activating intelligence cells as well as confiscating tons of arms and explosives and taking over the management of Abu Ghareeb and Taji prisons.

- The Council reviewed the achievements of a number of Parliamentary standing committees of the second parliamentary cycle. The chiefs of the Committees of Economy and Investment, Higher Education, Women and Family and Labor and Social Affairs outlined the achievements of their committees.

- MP Muhammad al-Hindawi, in a statement he read in the name of the Committee of Martyrs and Political Victims and Prisoners, denounced the heinous crimes committed against peoples of Shabak ethnicity as well as Turkmen and prayers in Samarra. He also denounced the continuous crimes committed in Baghdad, stressing in the name of the Committee on the need to fight terrorism and protect the lives of citizens.

- The sessions was adjourned to Monday, Sept. 30, 2013.
