The minutes
On 9/9/2013, the Council of Representatives (CoR) held its 19thsession of the 1st legislative term of the 4th period chaired by the Speaker H.E. Osama al-Nujaifi:
- 219 MPs attended the session
- Speaker al-Nujaifi announced that he received requests from a number of MPs regarding the position to be taken against the statements of MP Ahmad al-Alwani, confirming that an ad-hoc parliamentary committee has been formed to investigate the issue, calling for keeping the current national rapprochement and the rejection of any insult against any Iraqi component.
- The CoR delayed voting on the legislative proposal for the amendment of the National Elections Law No. 16 for the year 2005 submitted by the Committee on Legal Affairs;
- H.E Speaker al-Nujaifi called for expediting the process of voting on the Elections Law in order not to delay the parliamentary elections;
- Speaker al-Nujaifi announced that September 17 is set as the date to hold the Speakership meeting with the heads and representatives of parliamentary blocs to settle the dispute over the Elections Law;
- The CoR voted on the draft parliamentary code of conduct;
- The CoR finished the second reading of the legislative proposal for the 1st amendment of the Law of Iraqi Products Protection No. 11 for the year 2010 submitted by the Committee on Economy and Investment and the Committee on Legal Affairs;
- The parliamentary committee investigating into the attack against the coach of Karbala Sports Club Mr. Muhammad Abbas read out a report on hearing the testimonies of eyewitnesses, pointing out the involvement of a SWAT forces private in the attack. The Committee also recommended maximum punishment against the perpetrators to set an example to others.
- The session was adjourned to Tuesday 17/9/2013.
