On (18/5/2024), the House of Representatives held its twenty-fourth session of the first legislative term of the third legislative year of the fifth electoral cycle under the chairmanship of the First Vice-Speaker, Mr. Mohsen Al-Mandalawi in the presence of (311) Representatives, and the session included:
- To vote on the extension of its legislative term for a period of thirty days in confirmation of the decision taken by the Presidency of the House.
- The second reading of the draft law on official holidays submitted by the committees of endowments, clans, legal, culture, tourism, antiquities and media.
- The second reading of the proposed law on the second amendment to the Independent High Electoral Commission Law No. (31) of 2019 submitted by the Legal Committee.
- Representative Adnan Al-Jabri read a statement in the session in which he recalled the martyrdom of the thinker Ezz El-Din Selim, a member of the former Governing Council, recalling his intellectual and scientific biography and his contributions in consolidating ideas and principles that emphasized reunification and bloodshed, pointing to offering himself as an offering to his homeland and the teachings of his religion, calling for taking it as an example in sacrifice and building the nation.
- Mr. Al-Mandalawi announced the start of the second round of the election of the Speaker of the House in a democratic and transparent atmosphere in accordance with the law, including the nomination of Messrs. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, Salem Al-Issawi, Amer Abdul-Jabbar and Talal Al-Zobaie, expressing his hope that the election process will pass smoothly without any pressure on the ladies and gentlemen of the representatives as they are free in their choices.
- The results of the second round ballot resulted in representative Salem Al-Issawi obtaining 158 votes, representative Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani with 137 votes, and representative Amer Abdul Jabbar with 3 votes, while the number of invalid votes was 13 cards.
After that, it was decided to adjourn the session.
