Session Details

 On August 25, 2025, the Council of Representatives held its fifth session of the second legislative term of the fourth legislative year of the fifth electoral session. The session, presided over by Speaker Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani and attended by 170 representatives, included the following:

-Voting on the proposed first amendment to the Ministry of Education Law No. (22) of 2011, submitted by the Education Committee.

-First reading of the draft law on the first amendment to the Sunni Endowment Diwan Law No. (56) of 2012, submitted by the Endowments and Tribal Affairs Committee and the Legal Committee.

Deputy Speaker Dr. Shakhwan Abdullah presided over part of the session, which also featured:

-Second reading of the proposed law on the regulation of minority rights and the prevention of discrimination, submitted by the parliamentary committees on Human Rights and Martyrs and Victims.

-Dr. Shakhwan Abdullah directed the parliamentary Security and Defense Committee to open an investigation into a security officer's prevention of two representatives, Amer Abdul-Jabbar and Zuhair Shahid, from being present at a demonstration in Nusour Square. He emphasized the right of a representative to perform their duties as a representative of the people.

The session was then adjourned until the following day, Tuesday.
