 On (13/10/2022), the House of Representatives held its sixth session of the second legislative term of the first legislative year of the fifth electoral cycle under the chairmanship of Mohammed Al-Halbousi in the presence of (277) representatives and it included:

 


- The Speaker Al-Halbousi announced that a two-thirds quorum had been achieved for the number of members of the House scheduled to elect the President of the Republic, and read out the names of the 41 candidates for the post of President of the Republic, noting that two requests were received from Mr. Reaper Ahmed Saleh and Omar Barzanji to withdraw their candidacy from the competition for the post.

 - After the end of the secret ballot, the President of the House indicated that the total number of voters in the first round amounted to 277 representatives, which is the same number as the signatories, declaring that no candidate received number of votes of two-thirds of the members of the House according to article 70 of the Constitution, especially that the results of the ballot were 156 votes for the candidate Abdul Latif Rashid, while the candidate Barham Salih received 99 votes and the candidate Rebwar Or Haman received 9 votes, and both the candidates Thaer Ghanem and Louay Abdel Rahman received 9 votes. Sahib and Mehdi Mohamed on one vote, in addition to recording 10 invalid papers.

- The Speaker Al-Halbousi instructed the start of the second round of secret balloting under article 70 of the Constitution after the quorum was completed in the presence of 242 representatives and limited the competition between the candidates Abdul Latif Rashid and Barham Salih, who received the highest votes in the first round.


- Counting the votes of the second round, Speaker Al-Halbousi announced the victory of Mr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid in the post of President of the Republic of Iraq with 162 votes against 99 votes for Mr. Barham Salih, while 8 invalid votes were recorded, pointing out that the number of representatives voting in this round amounted to 269 representatives, which is the same number for the signatories.

 - The Speaker of the House of Representatives congratulated Mr. Abdullatif Rashid on his post of President of the Republic, stressing the importance of exercising his constitutional role in protecting the Constitution and preserving the sovereignty of Iraq, as well as thanking the ladies and gentlemen of the representatives for their efforts in making the democratic practice a success by electing the President of the Republic, and to the political blocs participating in the political process and the security forces and their prominent role in maintaining security and the safety of citizens expressing his appreciation to the Sadrist bloc and respect for its political positions.


- Mr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid takes the oath of the office before the House of Representatives in the presence of Mr. Jassim Al-Omeiri, President of the Federal Supreme Court.
